While some parts of the hotel represent the original turn-of-the-century style, most of the hotel has been transformed into a modern retreat. Known by locals as “The Aud”, this massive venue has hosted many of the world’s top entertainers. The arena is also home to the Kitchener Rangers, the city’s hockey team. The facility contains three different large arenas, along with some smaller meeting rooms. The three arenas are designed to function as ice rinks, although the ice and boards can be removed for concerts, trade shows, and other special events.  The Dom Cardillo Arena, their largest space, can hold up to 7,700 people, depending on how the seating is configured – this makes The Aud the largest indoor concert space in Kitchener.

This large warehouse-style venue can host up to 700 guests throughout the facility. Unlike traditional ‘carpet and chandeliers’ conference rooms, this venue has large windows, exposed steel beams, and large garage doors that can be used to divide the room. Although, if you don’t want this ‘industrial’ look for your event, the room can be decorated and transformed into a lavish ballroom. The layout is perfect for concerts – there are two bars and two stages, along with a large open area for guests to dance. The largest stage is 32′ wide, 16′ deep, and 32′ high – the second stage is about half as big. Black curtains frame the main stage, which features a very impressive sound and lighting system. There’s a lot at Maxwell’s that you simply can’t expect to find at any other venues in Waterloo.

Known for hosting large touring theatre shows, The Centre in the Square is able to accommodate more than 2000 guests. When not presenting theatrical stage shows, the centre often hosts gatherings such as weddings, on their 88-foot wide stage.  The first-class acoustics and outstanding décor is guaranteed to amaze your guests. The centre also offers a more intimate studio room which can accommodate 120 people (banquet seating) or 240 (theatre-style.)

The KW Little Theatre is exactly what it sounds like… a little theatre in KW. It’s a 60-seat black box theatre with in-house lighting, audio, and a video projector. The performance area is 30 feet wide by about 15 feet deep, plus a small storage room stage left with direct access to the stage. Inside the entrance is a small lobby with a snack bar you can use to sell your own concessions and merchandise. The lobby and washrooms are fully accessible. As of January 2023, the daily rental rate is $130.

If you’re a local, there’s a chance you may have watched a movie at the Appolo Cinema in Kitchener, but did you know you can rent the 308-seat movie theatre for private events?! Featuring a 43′ silver screen, it’s the ideal spot to host a film festival, birthday party, livestream presentation, virtual event, or video game competition. As far as we know, this is the only Kitchener venue where you can swim, skate or enjoy a concert – all under one roof. This Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex has a little bit of everything and offers one of the few Olympic-sized swimming pools available for rent in Kitchener-Waterloo. There are several smaller rooms that accommodate 50-150 people, but the real draw is their Sun Life Financial Arena which seats 4,400 people. Stadium seating and concession booths surround the rink, which measures 30 metres by 60 metres (100 feet by 200 feet). When not used for skating, the arena’s ice surface can be completely covered, allowing trade shows, concerts, and other special events to be hosted in the space. Behind the scenes, you’ll discover eight large dressing rooms with showers, a first-aid room, and a press box.  For large shows, there’s a 600 amp electrical service, and staging that can span up to 8½ metres by 12 metres (28 feet by 40 feet).

 

Museums & Libraries

The Waterloo Region Museum is one of the most historically significant venues in the city. The museum’s grand foyer is a lavish space surrounded by towering walls of Ontario limestone, and timber from a 19th-century barn. The foyer can accommodate more than 250 people (theatre style) or up to 150 people, seated for dinner.  The property contains many other meeting spaces, including the historic Freeport Church, featuring an antique pump organ, operating church bell, and historic oil lamps – a beautiful setting for a wedding.

One of the most affordable and often overlooked venues in Kitchener is the KPL, the Kitchener Public Library. At the Grand River Stanley Park Library, you can rent a small boardroom for just $30 per hour.
There are four locations in Kitchener, the Central Library at 85 Queen Street North, Country Hills Library at 1500 Block Line Road, Forest Heights Library at 251 Fischer-Hallman Road, and Grand River Stanley Park Library at 175 Indian Road.

The Central Kitchener Public Library has the most space, amenities, and event-hosting options by far. The largest space is the Reading Lounge, a grand 4,100 sq.ft room with floor-to-ceiling windows that can seat up to 200 guests for dinner. The library also features a 200-seat theatre equipped with a stage, projector, and sound system.

Most everyone in Kitchener-Waterloo has visited Golf’s Steak House to dine in their restaurant – it’s been a local favourite since opening in 1975. There’s an incredible view of the Grand River from the dining room upstairs!  In addition to operating the restaurant, Golf’s Steak House hosts many private events in its two large banquet rooms. The Ballroom is able to seat up to 220 people, with room for dancing. The smaller room, the Royal Room, seats 120, with dancing. Both rooms have their own private bar, entrance, washrooms, and coat room. Of course, with the on-site steakhouse and seafood restaurant, serving delicious food at your event is their speciality!

Whether you’re planning a two-person business meeting or a night out for a wedding party of 80. the Charcoal Steakhouse can provide a unique experience for your corporate or private event.

Abe Erb operates three locations in the Kitchener area: Downtown Kitchener, Uptown Waterloo, and Ayr Village.
The Abe Erb Kitchener location is steps from downtown and located in the historic “Lang Tanning Company” building, aka The Tannery. Able to accommodate up to 150 guests, the Kitchener brewery makes a great spot to host both formal and informal events. Featuring mini golf, bocce ball, and cornhole games (and lots of free parking on-site) the downtown venue is a great choice for fun team-building events, business meetings, birthdays, and anniversaries.
Abe Erb in Uptown Waterloo can accommodate groups of up to 130 people for special events that fill the entire restaurant. They also offer the option to divide the front and back areas of the venue for groups of 20-40 people. Featuring beer brewed on-site, a bar that seats 20+ people and large 12-seat communal tables,  the Uptown Waterloo Abe Erb is one of the city’s most unique event venues.
Abe Erb in Ayr Village is a half-hour drive from Kitchener-Waterloo, but it’s certainly worth including in this list of Kitchener event venues. Located in the township of Ayr, 20 km south of Kitchener, the small-town restaurant can host up to 150 people for private events. They can also accommodate large groups of 10-30 people throughout the restaurant. The private lower level, featuring games, darts, and a pool table is ideal for hosting special events for groups of 20-50 guests.

Best known for hosting the world’s second-largest annual Oktoberfest celebration, the Concordia Club is also gaining a reputation for hosting weddings and corporate events. The main hall, upstairs, features exposed wood beams and beautiful vaulted ceilings. More than 400 guests can enjoy dinner in the room, with lots of space for dancing afterwards. Downstairs, you’ll find the German-style restaurant (open six days a week), along with two rooms for hosting private parties. Each of these two private rooms can host up to 50 people for dinner. There’s also a large grass-covered area where outdoor events can be hosted for thousands.

Beautiful, rustic, and fun. The Pine Valley Chalet is an incredible 9,500 sq. ft. log chalet in Kitchener, best known as the home of Chicopee Tube Park. During the winter months, it’s a go-to spot for guaranteed family fun. The Tube Park is typically open to the public, but can also be reserved for private and corporate events. Available from May to Mid December, the Chalet itself can also be reserved for private affairs, accommodating up to 125 guests under the exposed beams that form picturesque vaulted ceilings. It’s a great spot to host a wedding in the Kitchener area, and also an ideal event venue for clubs, associations, business meetings, and corporate retreats.

Just outside of the city (a 15-minute drive from downtown Kitchener) in Breslau is Merry Hill Golf Club. It’s the perfect venue if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Best known for its large 27-hole executive-length golf course, the Breslau Golf Club is also a great spot for hosting gatherings of up to 80 people. The on-site restaurant, and partnership with local catering companies, provide a wide selection of food and beverage choices for your event. They also offer special holiday party packages that include holiday decor and centrepieces.

The Grand Valley Country Club is located about halfway between Kitchener and Cambridge. Best known for its 18-hole golf course, the Kitchener country club is also available for private events. The largest of four private rooms can accommodate 200 people for cocktails or 144 for dinner if you’re not planning to dance. Each of the four private rooms can be set up in a variety of ways depending on the requirements of your event. The on-site restaurant offers several options for catering your event, without the hassle of finding and hiring an independent catering company.

In addition to having an incredible 18-hole golf course, Grey Silo has become one of Kitchener/Waterloo’s most popular event venues. Even though it’s just a fifteen-minute drive from downtown Waterloo, it feels like you’re out in the country. Up to 130 guests can be accommodated in The Timber Room, a beautifully refinished barn with hardwood floors and a very high, vaulted ceiling. When hosting an event here, you really don’t have to worry about decorations; the venue is so nice, you won’t need anything beyond centrepieces. Rebel Creek Golf Club is just outside of the city, in Petersburg. In addition to the 18-hole golf course, Rebel Creek also offers a 22,000 sq ft banquet facility capable of accommodating 150 guests for dinner. Their onsite restaurant offers both plated and buffet meal options. The patio that stretches the entire length of the building is an excellent outdoor setting for summer events.

Whistle Bear Golf Club is in Cambridge, but it still makes the list of Kitchener-Waterloo event venues. This 18-hole golf course offers so much more than just a place to play a round of golf. The 40,000 sq. ft. clubhouse is an excellent event venue when you’re looking for modern amenities but looking to get away from the traffic and chaos of the city. The golf course is a short drive from Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph.

Steckle Heritage Farm   Visit website

Located on the edge of Kitchener, the Steckle Heritage Farm is one of the most unique venues in Kitchener-Waterloo.  Built in 1833, the City of Kitchener has designated the farm as a heritage property. While offering modern amenities, the estate still has the original farm buildings and maintains the atmosphere of an old farm. Hosting your corporate or private event at this farm in the city, is a surefire way to create unforgettable memories for your guests.

Victoria Park, located in downtown Kitchener, is one of the city’s oldest and largest parks. In the middle of the historic park is a beautiful 1920’s-era pavilion, large enough to accommodate 250 guests. Giant windows line the walls of the pavilion, letting in lots of natural light, and giving guests a great view of the park. There’s a built-in stage at one end of the building, perfect for live entertainment! The Pavilion is a very popular venue for weddings, so dates tend to be booked many months in advance – especially Saturdays in the summer and during December.

Hauser Hall, a former church hall built in the late 1800s, is located 10 km northwest of Waterloo in the small town of Heidelberg, Ontario. The building is now available to rent for private events and specializes in weddings. There’s space for 100 people to enjoy dinner at banquet tables on the ground floor, while the cathedral ceilings in the upstairs chapel create the ideal space for hosting a wedding ceremony.

The Tannery was built to serve as an industrial factory in the 1850’s. This large building (it’s the size of a city block) has now it’s been modernized and inhabited by high-tech companies and artisans. Inside The Tannery you’ll find The Tannery Event Centre, one of the most recent event venues to open in Kitchener. Although it’s fairly new, the downtown Kitchener-Waterloo venue is being operated by Bingemans – a local hospitality group with more than 50 years of experience. What makes this venue unique are the giant video screens that line the walls – excellent for meetings, presentations, and conferences. This venue is best suited for groups of 100-250 people. Catering is available.

University of Waterloo Federation Hall  Visit Website

Federation Hall, aka Fed Hall, is a wheelchair-accessible event venue on the University of Waterloo campus. The Main Hall can accommodate 450 people with chairs set up theatre-style or 280 people if guests are sitting down for dinner. The balcony that overlooks the main event space is wide enough for dinner tables surrounded by chairs or additional theatre-style seating. Behind a movable wall is the Columbia room, a space that can be opened up so it feels like it’s part of the Main Hall. When renting the entire venue for a corporate event, the Columbia Room is the ideal space to host the reception, while dinner tables and a stage are setup in the Main Hall.
