Regina, Saskatchewan
Following a performance in Brampton, Ontario, Magician Sam Pearce and his technician drove to a hotel near Toronto Pearson International Airport, to rest before the flight to Saskatchewan early the next morning. Way ahead of schedule, as you do, Sam and his technician met at the airport and jumped on an early-morning flight to Regina.
After checking into their hotel and having lunch, Sam and his technician arrived at the Turvey Center to meet the client who flew them half-way across the country: Degelman Industries.
Since Wilf Degelman founded the company in 1962, Degelman Industries has grown to become a leader in robust, high-quality landscaping and farm equipment. Their Canadian-made products are designed and built in their own 145,000 square feet manufacturing facility, located in Regina, Saskatchewan.
It’s truly a company that values their team and believes in rewarding them for their hard work and dedication. Every year, they host a Christmas Gala, featuring cocktails, dinner and live entertainment for 300 employees, spouses, VIPs, vendors, and retirees.
Once on-site at the Turvey Center in Regina, Sam and his technician, Kyle, began preparing for the evening’s performance. Sam carefully unpacked and set-up his magic props, while Kyle met with a technician from the local AV company to coordinate the sound and lighting. The local AV company supplied the equipment for the show (much more cost-effective than flying with heavy speakers) and Sam’s technician provided the expertise to set-up and operate the equipment, right on cue, just as rehearsed. It all led up to the sound check – once the audio system was tuned perfectly, everything was ready for the show.
When doors opened that evening for cocktails, Sam was quick to break the ice and get everyone talking with his Mingle Magic. Throughout the cocktail hour, Sam walked around the Turvey Center, welcoming guests to the party and amazing them with incredible magic, up close. Sam’s magic tricks with cards, coins and dinner forks quickly drew in guests, instantly sparking conversation and getting everyone excited for what was to come.
Guests were invited to enjoy as much food as they wanted at the open buffet during dinner. This truly is a company who knows how to treat their employees. Everyone also kept their ears open, waiting to hear the winning numbers as door prizes were given away throughout the meal. After dessert was served, it was showtime!
Sam’s 60-minute Hilarious Magic Act had the audience enthralled from the moment he stepped on stage. Things really got interesting, and highly entertaining, when Degelman’s guests were invited up on stage, to take part in the show. Soon, the audience volunteers were doing outrageously silly things, turning them into the real stars of the evening! Whether escaping from a genuine straitjacket or juggling giant knives, Sam kept the audience engaged, entertained, and rolling in the aisles with laughter.
Following the show, Sam packed up, headed back to his hotel (briefly) then to the Regina airport to hop on the next flight back to Toronto. He was on stage, entertaining at a corporate Christmas party in Barrie, Ontario, the very next night. Luckily, Sam had a few days to rest afterwards.
