The team at Medtronic are unsung heroes in the healthcare industry. They’re hard at work behind-the-scenes, developing pioneering technology that improves the lives of Canadians. Their extensive list of products includes pacemakers, heart valves, insulin pumps, coronary stents, surgical tools, and critical monitoring equipment. Medtronic’s offices can be found in 155 counties around the world; they employ more than 1,100 people in Canada alone.
In 2016, Magician Sam Pearce was hired to entertain a group of 90 executives from Medtronic’s Canadian head office, during their holiday party. The annual party was hosted at the Lionhead Golf Club in Brampton, a beautiful property on 520 acres of land, conveniently located near their head office.
The entertainment started as soon as guests entered the foyer. During cocktails, Sam welcomed people to the party and broke the ice by performing his incredible Mingle Magic, up close. One of his most amazing feats was magically causing a dinner fork to bend and twist beyond repair – moments after it was examined by guests. Sam’s highly-visual and engaging magic quickly drew people in, and this audience grew in size as everyone started talking.
Following cocktails, guests made their way into the dinner theatre to enjoy the buffet, catered by the in-house restaurant.
Lionhead Golf Club doesn’t have a dinner theatre, so Sam and his technician created one! Four hours before guests arrived for cocktails Sam’s team was hard at work setting up theatrical lighting, a crystal-clear sound system, and bright blue stage curtains. The high-quality equipment was tested and tuned perfectly for the room, ensuring absolutely everyone could see and hear the performance with ease.
Once guests finished their dessert, and drinks were served, it was time for the on-stage entertainment. As soon as the party’s host introduced Sam, he ran on stage and immediately jumped into his magic performance. After sharing some laughs with the audience, he invited several guests on stage to take part in the performance. Before they knew it, they became the real stars of the show!
Whether guests were strapping Sam into a straitjacket or helping him climb on a makeshift see-saw to juggle knives, he made sure they were comfortable on stage. Although he injects a lot of humour into the show, Sam keeps it completely clean throughout. He never says anything that would offend or embarrass anyone. Instead, his act is clean, classy, and designed to delight people from all walks of life.
