When you’re speaking with an entertainer, there are some key questions you’ll want to ask up front to make sure you’re getting the right fit for your event. Before you hire anyone, they should have a great understanding of your event and what you expect from them.
Try it out right now – call an entertainer and ask them these questions:
- How long is the performance? What can I expect? Is it interactive?
- Where can I see videos of your act that were filmed in front of a live audience?
- Do you have experience entertaining the type of audience attending my event?
- How far are you travelling? Who’s responsible for transportation and lodging expenses?
- Do you have a contingency plan if you can’t perform?
- What size of stage is required? How much setup time is needed before guests arrive?
- Are you providing a sound system, lighting, and stage curtains? Do you have a rider?
- Do you use a written contract?
- Do you have valid liability insurance?
- What’s your fee? Does an advance deposit need to be paid?
Did they pass the test? Are they a good fit for this event? If you’re impressed, add them to your shortlist. Once you have two or three suitable options, it’s time to compare their levels of service and decide what’s best for your event. As soon as you decide, call them back and book them before someone else does!
Corporate Entertainment Riders
Some entertainers and speakers have a rider. It explains in detail what is required from you, and is considered part of the contract. The rider can include audiovisual needs, stage requirements, hotels, meals, travel, and lots more. If they expect lavish catering at a five-star hotel for their team of ten, it’s important to factor that into the cost. This may sound like a joke, but it’s not. Entertainers are eccentric by nature. Read their rider before signing the contract!
